Privacy Policy

GearInsight ("we", "the site") is a free World of Warcraft gear and performance tool at gearinsight.app. This policy explains what data we handle and how.

Information we collect

• Anonymous usage analytics. We log page views with a one-way hashed, truncated form of your IP address (never the raw IP), the page path, language, and referrer. This measures traffic; it does not identify you personally.
• Character data you look up. Character names, realms and regions you query are public information retrieved from Warcraft Logs and the Blizzard Armory APIs. We cache results briefly to reduce load and do not build personal profiles.
• Preferences. Your language choice is stored locally in your browser (localStorage); it never leaves your device.
• Feedback you send us. If you use the feedback form, we store what you wrote, the page you were on, your language, your browser's user agent, and the same one-way hashed IP used for rate limiting. The contact field is optional and entirely up to you; if you fill it in we use it only to reply about that report.

We never ask for passwords or payment information, and we set no account of any kind. Apart from an optional contact you choose to type into the feedback form, we do not collect names or email addresses. Donations are handled entirely inside Alipay — no payment data reaches this site.

Cookies & advertising

The site currently runs without advertising. We use only a strictly necessary browser-local preference (your language choice) and no advertising or tracking cookies.

Third-party services

• Item names, icons and tooltips are provided by Wowhead.
• Performance and gear data come from Warcraft Logs and the Blizzard Armory APIs.

These services have their own privacy policies governing data they process.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics are aggregated for traffic reporting. API results are cached short-term (hours) and then discarded.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date reflects the latest revision.
